A stunning staircase structure has appeared in front of the historic building the Groothandelsgebouw in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, as a monument to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the city’s reconstruction, after the city went devastated during the World War Two.

The temporary structure is known as “The Stairs”. The reason the Groothandelsgebouw was chosen as the location is because the building was one of the first major buildings to be completed after the 1940 Blitz. It is an iconic building in the city's history. The company behind the project say the scaffolding used in the design, assembled by Dutch Steigers, is a tribute to Rotterdam's regeneration efforts.

The 57-meter long installation was designed by urban architects, MVRDV, and scaffolding engineers, Adviesbureau Dekker Engineering.
