Cody Garrett, 28, of Spartanburg, offered to take the tiny kitten home with him after another officer found the cat hiding under a trash dumpster to get out of the rain and brought her back to the police department.

The mustached cop told ABC News that he decided to take it upon himself to nurse the kitten back to health because he already had a rescue cat named Toothless at home who happens to be nursing four kittens.

When the kitten met her 'adopted mom' for the first time, she went to the bathroom—earning her the name Squirt.

Although Squirt is smaller than his other kittens, he noted that Toothless was even tinier when he found her in his yard last year.

Cody explained that he and his son were playing outside when he almost stepped on Toothless. After nursing her back to health, she is a new mom who has happily taken on one more kitten like her owner had hoped.

'That’s one of the only reasons I brought her home instead of taking her to the Humane Society,' he said of Squirt. 'She needed a mom so it worked out.'

Squirt is continuing to get stronger thanks to the support of her adoptive family, which includes her new mom, her four siblings, and Cody's two dogs.

Cody was also pleased to report that Squirt is playing with her brothers and sisters who have already taken to the newest addition.

'She already looks 100 times better than when we found her,' he added.

And while Squirt is getting healthier by the day, Cody has found internet fame thanks to heart of gold.

The police officer took to Instagram last Sunday to share a photo of himself in his squad car with Squirt perched on his shoulder.

'My new partner is kind of a puss,' he captioned the image, which sees him nuzzling his cheek against the kitten's head.

More than 1,300 people liked the photo, with people from all around the world singing his praises.

'Omg you are the best..!! Keep up the heartwarming work. Greetz from holland [sic],' one person wrote, while another added: 'Thanks for giving this beautiful kitty a home.'

Since he brought Squirt home with him, Cody has shared numerous photos and videos of his new pet.

One of the images includes an edited version of his first snapshot with Squirt, which sees his pet sporting a matching mustache.

'Much better,' he wrote.
