Photos taken on March 22, 2016 present an island in Aoshim, south Japan where cats may find themselves in the heaven on earth. The cats were originally introduced to the island to deal with mice, they stayed, and multiplied. Now there are over 120 cats on the islands, with the company of only 16 pensioners who did not join the waves of migrants seeking work in the cities after WWII.

With no restaurant, car, or shop whatsoever, the island offers no appealing condition for tourists, but cat lovers are not complaining. The cats, on the other hand, are roaming the island fearlessly due to a lack of predators and the abundant food brought along by the tourists.
