"Nail houses" are so called because of the way they have become irksome to developers. It's in reference to a Chinese idiom, "nail in the eye", which is similar in meaning to "thorn in the side". Their owner refused to accept a compensation deal by a property developer. More than 400 houses and courtyards in this village have been demolished since May 31, 2015, for reconstruction of the city's business district. (Photo/ youth.cn)
