The astonishing aerial photos taken by Chinese photographer Wang Qi show the savage beauty of North China’s Huangtu Plateau.

The Huangtu Plateau covers an area of some 640,000 km square in the upper and middle reaches of China's Yellow River. It is also known as Loess Plateau, as it is formed by silty sediment that has been deposited by wind storms over the ages.

The plateau covers almost all of China’s Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, as well as parts of Gansu province, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
