Miss. Huang, 25, is a slender girl who always liked to show off her charming collarbones when out and about in Wuhan city, capital of central China's Hubei province. Even in the severely cold winter, she was reluctant to wear warm clothes.
One morning, she walked out with a thin V-neck T-shirt and woolen coat. Less than ten minutes later, she felt a prickly pain in her neck and could not move her shoulder anymore. She was diagnosed with the cervical-shoulder syndromes after receiving emergency treatment in a hospital. The pain in her neck gradually decreased and she recovered feeling in her shoulder after physical therapy.
Recently many regions of China have witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures. Reporters of Chutian Metropolis Daily learned from several hospitals across Wuhan city that more and more patients saw doctors because of pain in the neck and shoulders. The people who suffered from the cervical-shoulder syndromes tend to be younger. Over half of patients got this disease by not doing enough to keep warm.

"Regardless of the low temperature, some young people only pay attention to their appearance and wear thin clothes. The first part of body that affected by cold air is the neck and shoulders. Yesterday morning, 12 patients came to hospital because of this complaint," said Zhao Wenhui, director of the department of pain treatment at the Sixth Hospital of Wuhan.
