BEIJING, Jan. 27 -- China is ready to advance relations with Russiato jointly promote peace, security and stability in the region and the world, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Wednesday.
Hua told a regular press briefing that China is ready to work with the Russian side to implement consensus that the leaders of the two countries have reached. She expressed readiness to foster friendship between the two countries from generation to generation through the 15th anniversary of signing the friendship and cooperation treaty this year.
She said the two sides should turn the advantage of high-level political links into greater results.
Hua made the remarks in response to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's latest comments on bilateral relations. Lavrov said at an annual press conference Tuesday that Russia-China relations were a model of international cooperation.
"It is in fact the best in the history of relations between our countries and our peoples ... There is no other country with which we have such an extensive network of cooperation mechanisms," Lavrov said, hailing the ties as "systemic" and having led to "impressive results."
Hua said the Chinese side agreed with Lavrov's comments. She said the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination continues to grow.
Last year, the two countries held commemorative activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II. They also launched a program to connect the China-initiated Silk Road Economic Belt with the Russia-led Eurasia Economic Union (EEU). The two sides also staged activities to mark the Year of Youth Friendship and Exchanges.
Hua said over the past year, the two countries have carried out close and effective cooperation on international affairs, and have achieved a series of landmark results.
