Chongqing people seem very fond of making snowman on snowy days, such as when the city saw this winter's lowest temperature as it dipped below freezing on Saturday. But it might have got one driver into trouble for building a snowman on top of a car, Chongqing Evening News reported.
The police have warned 33 drivers for having snowmen on top of their cars in the shopping district in Yangjiaping. According to Law of the People's Republic of China on Road Traffic Safety, goods carried on top of a car or SUV with seven seats or fewer should be less than 50 cm in height. In violation of relevant law and regulations, drivers will incur a fine of 50 yuan and be given 1 point penalty.
According to a reporter with Chongqing Evening News, dozens of cars with snowmen in various shapes sitting on their roofs were seen on his way to the central park. And nearby the central park, several car owners stopped by the roadside and made snowman on the top of their cars. Without taking any protection measures, a driver even put some plastic decorations on the snowman. He said, "Everyone made snowmen like this; plus the children loved it."
In view of people in the city in southwest China seldom seeing snow, deputy captain of the Jiulongpo District's Yangjiaping Traffic police brigade Tang Zhiqiang said that police officers this time only stopped cars and warned the drivers to remove snowmen from the roof instead of giving tickets.
The direct friction between the roof of the car and the snowman is minimum. Once the snowmen melt, it may fall from the roof and cause an accident, Tang added.
