British actor Alan Rickman who played the Hogwartz professor Severus Snape in Harry Potter has died from cancer at the age of 69, as his saddened family confirmed to the media on Thursday.
In the Harry Potter series, Professor Snape is a sarcastic and bitter teacher, but his double spy life and unrequited love eventually win the heart of the audience.

Mr. Rickman played substantial roles in a number of major films apart from the Harry Potter series, including Die Hard, Love Actually, and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. But as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, his greatest passion had been on a theatre stage.
Mr. Rickman passed away in hospital on January 14, 2016, surrounded by relatives and friends.
