In order to regulate the waste recycling market and help solve the waste sorting and recycling problem, an application called "Waste Picker" is to be used by the people living in some building complexes in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang province at the end of January 2016.
With this application developed by the Hangzhou Environmental Co. Ltd, the citizens can tell the staff of the company when they can come to their homes to collect the recyclables such as newspaper and Coca-Cola bottles. At the pre-scheduled time, the staff in blue uniforms will come to the citizens' homes to buy the recyclables at a fixed market price.
"What we want is recyclables and the citizens will have to sort other kinds of wastes themselves before putting them into garbage cans,” said Jin Li, a media coordinator of the Hangzhou Environmental Co. Ltd on Jan. 7, 2015.
Jin said that the Hangzhou Environmental has developed a questionnaire for the people living in one building complex. The company tries to gather information with questions such as “Do you support the app?” Most respondents said that the app is good to their daily life. According to Jin, they have not got many respondents and it is time for them to expand the region where they distribute questionnaires.
