Tianjin officials have revealed a plan to clean up the water in a six-meter deep crater created by last week's explosions.

"We've done three quality tests on the water, and have acquired a basic knowledge of its nature," said Li Xingchun, from the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

"Currently the level of cyanide is 40 times the standard, on average. The PH value is between 10 to 11. COD, sulfide, ammonia nitrogen and other chemical pollutants are all within the standard.

"We have come up with a response plan accordingly. It is being carried out now. First, we will use a water pump to pump out the water. Second, we will transport the water via pipe, and then send it to a waste water disposal factory for handling. This way, we can ensure the safe disposal of the cyanide."
