The Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci
Russian artist Svetlana Petrova has become known for her creative artwork of placing her big ginger cat named Zarathustra in well-known classic paintings since last year. As she has held an art exhibition in England and launched her own art website fatcatart.com, Petrova continues presenting us with more than 150 art creations featuring the fat cat. Here are our selections of Petrova’s fat cat series.
According to Russian media Комсомо́льская пра́вда, Petrova suffered from depression when her mother passed away in 2008. For the following two years, she found herself unable to create anything, until one of her friends suggested that she try to include Zarathustra, the fat ginger cat that once belonged to Petrova’s mother, in her art work.
“Zarathustra likes posing and making strange faces. It is a really intelligent cat, so I began to take photos of him and inserted them into paintings,” Petrova said.
