Tu Xiaozhen, a sanitation worker in Wuhuan, central China's Hubei province, successfully stopped eight suicides when cleaning the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge in the past eight years. She was awarded with a medal for her exceptional work by the Urban Management Committee of Wuhan on Dec. 24, 2015.

On the afternoon of Dec. 24, Zhang Jun and Zhu Jianhua, two officials from the Wuhan Urban Management Committee, awarded the medal and 10,000 yuan to Tu Xiaozhen at the bridgehead of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge in drizzle.

Tu began to work as a sanitation worker in 1989. Since 2007, she has been the head of the clean team responsible for the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge and surrounding areas. The 1,100 meters long bridge has no water source or any tree shade. She begins work at 6:30 a.m. and walks back and forth on the bridge five times every day.

In the past eight years, she has persuaded eight people who wanted to jump off the bridge to give up the idea of suicide. In order to prevent more suicide cases, she began to work with the Yangze River rescue team recently to provide timely help to the suicides.
