LONDON Dec. 6 (People's Daily Online) — In December, The China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) will undertake a nationwide drive to help UK companies understand and appreciate the opportunities around President Xi Jinping’s major initiative, One Belt One Road, and how to get involved. This will include a series of events with experts from CBBC and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) who will share their insights into this exciting new initiative with businesses in London, Glasgow, Coventry and Manchester as well as two online sessions.
CBBC, in partnership with the FCO, released a ground-breaking report on the initiative, launched by the Chancellor, George Osborne, on his last visit to China. This report, which will form the basis of the events, covered the implicit and explicit objectives of the initiative as well as covering the roles of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, of which the UK is a founding member, and The Silk Road Fund – an estimated combined pot of more than $90 billion.
Stephen Phillips, Chief Executive, China-Britain Business Council said, ‘It is vital that the British business community understands what One Belt One Road could mean in the short, medium and long term and to take action to position themselves to win business in the years ahead. At the China-Britain Business Council we will work closely with businesses to seize these new opportunities.’
CBBC believes seven sectors will play a decisive role in the early years of One Belt One Road: Agriculture, Advanced Manufacturing and Transport, E-Commerce and Logistics, Energy and Resources, Financial and Professional Services, Healthcare and Life Sciences, and Infrastructure. The report and events go into further detail, showcasing 13 Chinese provinces, highlighting where the opportunities lie for UK business.
HM Ambassador to China Barbara Woodward said, ‘As the vision for One Belt One Road becomes a reality in years to come, UK business is poised to play an integral part in delivering the global and economic growth and connectivity it envisages.’
