"Luxury apartments in east third ring, convenient transportation, safe and clean, 30 to 40 yuan/person/bed/day, an ideal place for a new graduate in Beijing ......" When the job search season begins in Beijing, such leasing advertisements can often be seen in the street or online.
Beijing Amber Job Seeker Apartment is one of the apartments which afford cheap accommodation for tenants. On the 8th floor of a 26-story building near the Shuangjing Subway Station, the 90-square-meter apartment has one living room and two bed rooms. There are totally 26 beds including 5 bund beds in the living room, 4 bund beds in each of bed rooms. A small curtain covers each bed to make a small space of privacy.
According to He Miaomiao, a tenant, the persons who let out the "Job Seeker Apartment" are often the sublessors. They rent the whole apartment from the landlord and re-let the beds to the tenants. Excluding the facilities, a sublessor can get a profit of 10,000 yuan a month.
Such a "Job Seeker Apartment" is not allowed by the Beijing government, as its regulation states that the living space for a tenant in a rental house should be no less than five square meters and each room may not contain more than two people.
However such a cheap bed really meets the needs of a large number of cash-strapped job seekers in Beijing.
