The Shanghai Scrap Motor Vehicles Recycling and Dismantling Service Supervisory Platform launched on Nov. 16 and has demonstrated that whole process of scrapping a car, from sorting the different parts, such as tires and engines, to transporting the car body parts, such as doors and shells to a specified place for crushing, only takes 12 minutes.
In order to improve industry standards for the dismantling of scrapped cars and to enhance the comprehensive utilization of resources, relevant government departments in Shanghai issued a reform plan of the motor vehicle scrapping and dismantling industry in Shanghai on Oct. 26. And since early November, the plan has been implemented.
Huang Shangwei, president of Xingguang Recycling (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, the only pilot unit of the reform plan, said that the assembly line for scrapped car dismantling has realized full automization and the remanufacturing and reuse rate of car parts has been greatly improved.
According to Huang, the total planned investment of the pilot project is 420 million yuan, with a first stage investment 290 million yuan and second stage investment of 130 million yuan. The project aims to set up a green recycling system for scrapped motor vehicles, so as to promote the development of a circular economy and enhance the comprehensive utilization of resources. The car dismantling assembly line currently in operation can dismantle all types of scrapped motor vehicles, with an annual dismantling capability of 100,000 cars.
The China Automotive Industry Association predicts that by 2020, the number of cars scrapped each year will reach 13 million. Shanghai plans to eliminate 300,000 used cars from 2015 to 2017. Some insiders have said that the ever-increasing number of cars being scrapped has provided strong impetus to the development of automotive remanufacturing industry, and also put forward a higher requirement on the technologies and operations of the industry.
