Woman sells fried rice to raise money for operation for her disabled fiancé
Xu Hongxue set up a stall to sell fried rice at the gate of the No.2 Middle School of Shenqiu County to earn money for the operation.

A novel brought an unlikely couple together and led to an unusual story of their own. Li Weitao is disabled and he only has a primary school education. Xu Hongxue is a beautiful college student. They met via an online novel Li Weitao was posting and on the eve of Spring Festival 2015, Xu’s parents agreed that they could marry. Though an illness means Xu is having to do all she can to pay for an operation for Li.

Li Weitao left his primary school because of his disabilities. He likes reading extracurricular materials and wanted to write online novels after learning how to use a computer. He posted his works on a well-known literature website.

Xu Hongxue came across a novel written by Li Weitao in Jan 2011. At that time Xu was a student of Water Conservancy at Shandong Technical College in Zibo, east China's Shandong province.

The two chatted each as friends and talked with each other over QQ, an online chat service. During the National Day holiday 2011, Xu Hongxue came to Shenqiu County, central China's Henan province to meet with Li Weitao who was in a wheelchair.

"To be honest, although Li Weitao had told me about his disabilities, I’d never expected the situation could be so severe," Xu Hongxue said to the reporters from Dahe Daily. She added that she made a decision to be Li Weitao’s girlfriend as Li, three years older than her, is a very responsible man.

Li Weitao said that he went to Xu Hongxue’s home during the Spring Festival of 2015. Xu's parents agreed that the two could get married.

In April 2015, Li Weitao was diagnosed with lumbosacral spinal tumors and space-occupying lesions in his lumbar spinal canal. An operation on the tumors will cost him more than ten thousand yuan. He cannot afford the operation, but what makes things worse is that he cannot work anymore and his fiancée has to make time to care for him.

After receiving medical treatment in Beijing, Li went back to his hometown in September 2015. Xu Hongxue set up a stall at the gate of the No.2 Middle School of Shenqiu County to sell fried rice to earn money for Li’s operation. Xu sometimes works till later than 11 p.m. Li Weitao sitting in his wheelchair does what he can to help his fiancée.

Li Weitao tells reporters with Dahe Daily that Xu Hongxue coughs a lot as she works more than 10 hours a day and even had pneumonia these last two days. Li hopes that people can help him through their difficulties.
