Police arrested a man who was believed to have stabbed a young woman and seriously wounded her when grabbing her bag early Wednesday morning in downtown Zhabei District.

He was caught inside an Internet cafe a few hours after the attack, police said. The woman, 23, is being treated in hospital and has undergone surgeries, according to one of her friends, who posted her situation on Sina Weibo, calling for punishment of the robber.

A friend drove her home and dropped her off near her residential complex on Yanchang Road, in Daning Area in wee hours today. Minutes after that, the woman, walking alone, was attacked.

The friend wrote on Weibo that she was brutally stabbed with two knives. She was having surgeries to repair her seriously wounded intestines, according to the friend.
