An elderly man surnamed Luo from Emei Mountain in southeast China's Sichuan Province has reportedly torn into pieces RMB notes worth 476,000 yuan, which was his life savings.
The local based West China Metropolis Daily reports on Sunday that the incident happened when the man, who has been mentally ill, went into a psychotic episode.
Family members said the elderly man felt very depressed over what he had done after he regained sanity.
The torn RMB notes have currently been sorted out by 13 local bank employees working overtime, who will estimatedly need another week to get all repaired.
