The Changguan Building opened to the public on Oct. 10, the first time in 107 years. It is the last royal palace built at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
The Changguan Building was built by a French architect in May 1908. The name "Changguan" was granted by the Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908).
It is the best preserved European-style building in Beijing. More than 100 years ago, the Empress Dowager Cixi often stopped by the Changguan Building on her way to the Summer Palace. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Changguan Building became an importance place to receive distinguished people.(Photo/CFP)
