The base of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor was officially launched in Nanjing, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Sunday.
The inauguration ceremony was held during the China-ASEAN Information Harbor Forum, which ends on Monday.
Lu Wei, minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said China will push forward the establishment of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor fund and increase investment in information infrastructure relying on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. He added a portal for China-ASEAN Information Harbor will be established to promote penetration of the Internet and break the information barrier and bridge the "digital gap".
"We'll share with ASEAN countries the information service on economy and finance, education and scientific research, health care and disaster early warning, and let the construction of the Information Harbor benefit people in both China and ASEAN countries", Lu said.
According to plan, the core base will be constructed in the Wuxiang New District. There are 34 projects currently selected, with investment of about 20.9 billion yuan ($3.28 billion).
