BEIJING, Sept. 10 -- China is verifying a media report which claimed a Chinese national was captured by the Islamic State (IS), a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
The IS claimed earlier its militants had captured a Chinese consultant and a Norwegian man, according to the group's official online magazine.
"We have noticed the report," spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily news briefing, adding that China is working to verify the situation.
"The Chinese government strongly opposes any violence against innocent civilians," Hong said.
