Grand V-Day Parade Countdown

Less than 24 hours to go! The grand V-day parade will start at 10 am, Thursday, Sept. 3, Beijing time. Photos taken on Wednesday morning shows the Tian'anmen Square is gearing up for the commemoration activities.

The weather is gorgeous in Beijing on Wednesday. Forecast says we are going to have nice weather too on Thursday.

People’s Daily Online will broadcast the event live to viewers.

Agenda of commemoration activities

At around 9 am Thursday, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan, will greet all ofthe distinguished foreign guests at the south square of Duanmen, north of Tian'anmen. A group photo will be taken. And afterwards, President Xi will lead all of the guests to the Tian'anmen Rostrum to watch the parade.

At 10 am, 70-gun salutes will mark the opening of the official event. Guards will escort the national flag from the Monument to the People's Heroes to Tian'anmen Square for a flag-raising ceremony.

President Xi will then deliver a keynote speech. The president will inspect all of the troops after his speech. The military march-past will then begin. It's expected to last about 50 minutes. And the parade will end before noon.
