There are scores of oil paintings in the exhibition hall in Military Parade Village, featuring the stories of Norman Bethune. The works were painted by Shi Mingyan from “Bethune Medical Formation”.
Shi chose to study medicine and came to Bethune Military Medical College in 2012. Her face was covered with tears when she first visited the Museum of the College History and heard the story about Norman Bethune. Since then, the image of Bethune has been engraved in her mind.
Shi didn’t buy snacks in the first three months after the new term began. She did this to save money to buy painting tools and materials. Then she began to focus on painting Bethune.
After one year and nine-month, she finally showed 58 moments of Bethune via her paintings. The first exhibition of her painting made a stir in her college. A collector even wanted to buy four of the paintings with 80,000 yuan, but Shi decline the offer and gave three paintings to the Bethune Memorial Hall as gift. She gave the rest of the paintings to her college.
Shi has to sweat for training for the parade, but she still persists in painting after training.
