Retired roller-skating coach supports children's Olympic dreams

People always see an old man teaching a group of children to practice skating in the playground of Dongcai community in Mianyang city, southwest China's Sichuan province. This man named He Peicheng used to be a famous person in roller-skating circles and cultivated many speed skating talents for China.

In 2011, He and his wife moved to Mianyang, where their son worked. One day, he walked in the square beside Mianyang Science & Technology Museum and noticed a little boy practicing roller-skating there. Having discovered the talent of this little child, he gave directions to him. Since then, the news that a grandpa teaches roller-skating in the square has been widely spread and more children have gathered here to learn skills.

He was so excited to learn that Beijing succeeded in the bidding for the Winter Olympic Games on July 31, 2015. "I have another six years to train these little children, who have big opportunities to participate in the Winter Olympic Games in 2022. And I look forward to seeing these children from Sichuan province stand on the podium one day," he said.
