A large-scale Great Wall-shaped flower terrace is being erected in Tiananmen Square in Beijing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).

The framework of the display has already been set in place, and the whole work is expected to be completed by August 25, the Beijing Times reported.

Those in charge of the construction said that this year the Great Wall terrace is more difficult to build than in previous years, as the design requires more flowers and the shape is more complex.

In addition to the Great Wall feature in front of Tiananmen Square, eight mosaics will be placed along Chang'an Avenue. Four will be at the Dongdan crossroads, and they will have the themes of spectacular landscape, general prosperity, peaceful development, and the Chinese national celebration. The other four will be at the Xidan crossroads and feature the themes of social change and everyday people's lives, authorities said.

Tiananmen Square is currently closed to the public, and the viewing stands on both sides have already been set up. If tourists want to go to the Forbidden City's Palace Museum, they must enter through the Working People's Cultural Palace and Zhongshan Park, situated at the east and west sides of Tiananmen Square.
