Parents expressed outrage when a wardrobe malfunction during a touring off-Broadway show performed at a Jiangsu Province zoo briefly left a dancer's breasts exposed, news portal thepaper.cn reported Sunday.
The unnamed Wuxi zoo had hosted the 70-minute performance, Fuerza Bruta, free of charge for visitors last week.
The Argentinean dance theater sensation is celebrated for its fast paced routines to high-octane electronic music. Performed off-Broadway since 2007, the show features male and female dancers performing in water pooled on a plastic sheet suspended above the audience.
However, witnesses said parents began leaving with their children after one of the scantily-clad female performers became briefly disrobed during the highly-physical performance.
"Is the show a night club performance? It is not suitable for young children," said a woman surnamed Xu, the mother of a first grader.
Another woman in attendance, surnamed Tang, said the show was impressive but not appropriate for a family-oriented venue.
A zoo spokesman said the show has had successful runs in China since 2013, and has been performed in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
He said the zoo was unaware of the show's "sexual content" and any nudity that occurred during the performance was accidental.
Some Net users accused parents of being "too sensitive" about what is an artistic performance.
"The performers had chosen the wrong location, while the organizers should have warned of the show's content so that parents would not take young children," commented a Net user.
