Chinese embassy in Turkey warned Sunday its citizens traveling in the country to be careful of anti-China protests, reminding them not to get close to the protesters or film the rally.
The warning notice, posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, said there had been several demonstrations in Turkey targeting the Chinese government and some Chinese tourists have recently been attacked or harassed.
The notice also remind Chinese citizens to minimize their outside activities on their own to avoid being hurt.
According to Globe Times, the anti-China protests were organized due to false western reports about China's treatment of Muslim Uighur people in China's far western region of Xinjiang, saying they had been banned from worship and fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. But Chinese embassy emphasized that the report was not true at all.
Local report said several hundred protesters marched towards the Chinese embassy on Sunday, carrying flags and chanting anti-China slogans outside the building.
