SYDNEY, July 3 -- A Darwin road crew on Friday discovered a Japanese bomb dropped on the city in 1942 during World War II.

The Japanese bombed the northern Australian city, killing around 900 people and sinking more than 10 ships.

In all the city was raided 60 times by the Japanese, leading to fears of an invasion by the Japanese Imperialist forces.

On Thursday a road crew found the unexploded bomb while carrying out work, and immediately called the Army bomb disposal unit.

They arrived and took the bomb away, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
