BERLIN, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are major news items in leading German newspapers on Monday.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) led the vote in Sunday's state parliament election in the German state of Thueringen with more than 34 percent of the vote, while Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD) won the election in German state of Brandenburg with 32 percent of the vote. Germany's anti-euro party, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), achieved double-digit results and entered in both states' parliaments.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung:

According to a senior employee of the American state department, many Arab countries have offered to participate in air strikes against the Islamic State (IS) militants. Members of the IS murdered another Western hostage, with a video released online on the weekend showing British aid worker David Haines being beheaded on camera.
