Top specialists called to make China innovative

BEIDAIHE, Hebei, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Wednesday met with top scientists and called on them to help the nation realize innovation-powered growth.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with scientists and experts in other fields who are enjoying a state-sponsored summer vacation at Beidaihe, a coastal resort in north China's Hebei Province.

Entrusted by President Xi Jinping, Liu extended greetings and good wishes to the holidaymakers.

He encouraged them to grab opportunities afforded in new scientific and industrial revolutions, and to innovate in their work so that China can build a reputation for high technology.

Liu stressed that people at the peak of their professions hold the key to realizing the Chinese dream of reviving the country. The bigger the role that top-level specialists are allowed to play, the more promising the country will be, according to the official.

Liu also urged these specialists to respect academic ethics and to value their academic reputations.

Moreover, he stressed that the CPC should manage academic and create a better environment for it.

Academics attending the Wednesday meeting included members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Justin Yifu Lin, economist and professor with Peking University.

Since 2001, more than 700 experts in various fields have enjoyed, at the invitation of the central authorities, summer vacations in Beidaihe.
