BEIJING, July 18 --Malaysia Airlines Flight that crashed in war-torn eastern Ukraine has increased the death toll from 295 to 298. It says three infants had not been included in the original list. The tragedy occurred Thursday in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board were reportedly killed.
The airline said the flight route had been declared safe by the global civil aviation body. Some Ukrainian and US media have reported the plane was brought down by a surface-to-air missile. This morning, the airlines said all of its European flights will take alternative routes.
Of the known nationalities of the victims, the majority -154 - were from the Netherlands, while 43, including 15 crew and two infants, were from Malaysia, 27 from Australia, 12 from Indonesia, 9 from Britain, 4 from Germany, 4 from Belgium, 3 from the Philippines, one from Canada, and 41 others still unverified.
