Enhancing the city industrially to realize the economic rejuvenation of Lhasa

J: Though the environment and the culture both are important, without industries, Lhasa cannot really generate its own blood for the leapfrog development.

Qi Zhala: You are absolutely right. Development is the basis and the key to all the problems of Tibet. It is Lhasaate its own blood for the leapfrog development.ardeenhancing the city industrially is the foundation for the economic prosperity and leapfrog development of Lhasa.

We have successively established the Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Tibetan Cultural and Tourist Innovation Garden, the Dazi Industrial Park, the Qushui Industrial Park, and have also finished the construction of the “one district with four parks” project inside the Duilongdeqing Industrial Park. Such projects will develop in the ways that “best feature their characteristics and dislocation development” by integrating the production elements and enterprises together to achieve intensive development.

J: What industries will be used to equip the “one district with four parks”?

Qi Zhala: We will cultivate the six industries of tourist and cultural industry, the healthy industry of the pure Lhasa, the power industry, the advantageous mining industry, the construction and materials industry, and the ethnic hand-work industry.

We will also boost up the renovation and enlargement project at the Namtso Scenic Spot, and start the construction work of the national 5A level Lalu Wetland Scenic Spot, in order to produce a series of topnotch tourist resorts.

We will also intensify the integration of different mining resources in the building of new mining industrial hubs, in order to break the annual production record of RMB30 billion and the tax amount of RMB3 billion by 2015.

We will start from the distinctive characteristics of the pure sky, air, water and mind to develop greatly the healthy industry of pure Lhasa and facilitate the development of four products: food, drinks, medicine and jewelries. During the process, famous brands will be established to extend the production chains and move toward high value-added directions.

We will put the influence and the integration capability of the capital Lhasa into full play, in order to facilitate the establishment of the logistics center for construction materials.

We will boost up the construction of the power projects of hydropower, photovoltaic, and geotherm.

We will develop the handwork industry with the five ethnic handcrafts of metal making, weaving, sculpture, painting and embroidery, as well as the Tibetan incense making.

The implementation of the strategy of enhancing the city industrially will be beneficial for the urbanization of Lhasa. With the improvement of the basic facilities of Lhasa and of the function of the gardens, the industries will develop with fast speed while attracting numerous employments. The income of the farmers and the herdsmen will increase from RMB6,000 annually to more than RMB17,000, reaching the standard of urban residents. This will also greatly facilitate the urban construction. The speed-up of urbanization will be helpful for the rise of Lhasa and beneficial for social stability on the higher level.
