Typhoon Nari Threatens South China City
The No. 16 tropical storm Nari struck the coastal city of Shantou in Guangdong Province at noon Thursday, bringing torrential rain and strong winds into the area.
The city's weather station has issued flood warnings for the area, which is near the eye of the storm, according to a local official in charge of disaster control.
Nari gained momentum Thursday morning as it was heading toward the city at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, with winds at the center of 30 meters per second.
