Port City Invests Heavily in Infrastructure Facilities

The port city of Tianjin, north China, plans to invest 33.5 billion yuan (4.03 billion US dollars) to construct a group of large infrastructure facilities.

Sources with the city construction committee said that these projects include the No.1 subway line, light rail project, Haihe River bridge, three expressways, waste water treatment plants, urban roads and residential buildings.

Currently, work on the subway, light rail project, the Haihe River bridge, and expressways has started.

The three sewage treatment plants, to be constructed this year, will raise the city's daily capability of treating waste water to 1.49 million tons.

The city will invest 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion US dollars) to construct residential houses in the second half of the year, according to a construction plan.
