DPRK Top Leader Sends Delegation to Mourn S.Korean Businessman

A delegation, sent by Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), left Saturday for Seoul to express condolences over the death of a South Korean business tycoon.

The mission, led by Song Ho Gyong, vice-chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, is the first of its kind since the division of the Korean Peninsula after the Korean War in 1950-53.

In a message carried by the delegation, DPRK leader Kim Jong Il expressed "deep condolences" over the death of Jong Ju Yong, the former honorary chairman of the Hyundai business group of South Korea who died Wednesday in Seoul.

The South Korean business tycoon "has made contributions to the inter-Korean reconciliation, cooperation, national unity and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula,"said the DPRK top leader in his condolence message.

The visit will contribute to the further development of the inter-Korean ties, according to local press.
