HK Flower Show Visitors Set Record High

The '2001 Hong Kong Flower Show,' which was closed at the Victoria Park Sunday, attracted over half a million visitors, setting a 14-year new high.

The total number of visitors was 547,900, representing about 11 percent increase over the previous record high of 491,913 last year. Besides, a total of 255 guided tours were organized for about 7,538 people, compared to the 52 tours and 2,129 people last year.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Flower Show, Alfred Cheung Yiu-fai, said that it is encouraging to entertain the larger number of visitors.

He attributed the enthusiastic response to the series of new initiatives introduced this year. Spring Blossoms in Melody was the theme of this year's show and begonia was selected as the theme flower.

A total of 86 organizations from Hong Kong, China's mainland and overseas participated in the event to showcase exquisite floral and bonsai displays.
