Mori Says Critics Treating Him Like Abandoned Child

Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori said Monday critics have treated him as being like ''a baby picked up under an overpass,'' echoing a similar remark he had to retract last year.

''The media have insisted it was a backdoor deal,'' Mori told a House of Councillors Budget Committee session, referring to the process of his selection as premier. ''For the past year, I have been characterized as something like a baby picked up under an overpass.''
