Satellite TV City Inaugurated in Macao

An inaugural ceremony was held Wednesday in Macao for East Asia Satellite (EAST) TV City, an estimated 300 million HK dollars (about US$40 million) production center and tourist attraction in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

EAST-TV City is built by eSun Holdings Limited, an integrated media and entertainment company focused on the global Chinese audience. When completed, the city will be one of the largest film and TV production facilities in Asia.

The state-of-the-art facility will occupy 150,000 square meters in Cotai City of Macao. Construction on the city will begin in the second quarter of 2001.

When fully operational, EAST-TV City will initially be capable of producing 5,000 hours of programming each year. The production complex will include nine production studios, location filming and post-production facilities, as well as a tourist attraction consisting of studio tour experience, restaurants and shops.

"The announcement of EAST-TV City marks a significant milestone for eSun," said Peter LAM Kin Ngok, board member of eSun. "EAST-TV City represents a key strategic investment in our mission to be the premier creator and distributor of branded Chinese-language content."
