Myanmar Establishes Diplomatic Ties with Uzbekistan

Myanmar established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan on Thursday, the first country with which Myanmar forged links this year, according to official newspaper The New Light of Myanmar Friday.

Uzbekistan is also the 87th country in the world with which Myanmar has established diplomatic ties since its independence in 1948.

The two countries pledged to establish ties of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation, based on principles of the Charter of the United Nations and norms of the international law and in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and on Consular Relations, the newspaper said.

In the last two years, Myanmar forged ties with a total of 10 countries and has so far opened 30 embassies, two permanent missions and two consulates-general in various parts of the world, while in Myanmar, embassies of 27 nations, offices of five UN agencies and two consulates have been opened, according to the Myanmar Foreign Ministry.
