Elderly Should Uphold Science and Boycott Heresies

The China Senior Citizens' Society issues an open letter to senior citizens nationwide on February 5 calling on the hundreds of millions of old people throughout the country to wage resolute struggle against Li Hongzhi and his heretic Falun Gong cult through to the very end, so as to ensure the country's stable development and lasting peace.

The open letter says that after the news about the incident of several infatuated Falun Gong practitioners who burnt themselves at Tiananmen Square on January 23 was published by the media, all senior citizens nationwide felt greatly shocked and indignant. The unpardonable, towering crimes committed by the Falun Gong cult will ultimately be subjected to historical trial.

The open letter points out that the broad masses of retired cadres and senior citizens are the valuable wealth of our Party and State, and they have made historic, important contributions to the cause of China's socialist revolution and construction. It expresses the hope that the veteran comrades will give full play to their own political, experience and knowledge advantages, and that they conduct extensive publicity and education of their own families, children and relatives and among the youngsters in general, teaching them to keep themselves away from the Falun Gong cult and have a clear understanding of the cult's ugly features and political attempt. At the same time, the elderly should study and receive education, play an exemplary role, consciously take the lead to observe disciplines and abide by laws, uphold science and boycott heresies, and actively plunge themselves into the struggle against the heretic Falun Gong cult.

The China Senior Citizens' Society calls upon government departments and senior citizens' organizations at all levels to give full play to their role as senior citizens' universities, activity centers for the old people and as other facilities, and guide the old people in launching scientific, civilized and healthy cultural and sports activities, occupy mass cultural and recreational positions and enrich the cultural life of senior citizens.

A forum on waging resolute struggle against the heretic Falun Gong cult was held in Beijing on February 5. At the forum old people were called upon to further establish a correct outlook on world and life, to strengthen study, uphold science and oppose superstition, and draw a clear line of demarcation between materialism and idealism, civilization and ignorance, arm their minds with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory and adopt a scientific, civilized and healthy style of life.
