Mayan Civilization Exhibition Comes to Guangzhou
Ancient Mexican Relics Exhibited in Guangzhou
Cultural relics representing the Mayan Civilization were on display in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong, beginning Friday.
The Mayan Civilization Exhibition is presenting its second show in its tour of China, after being shown in the Terra-Cotta Warrior Museum in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province in northwest China.
Cecilio Garza, Mexican ambassador to China, said at the opening ceremony that the archeological show is not only the first in China, but also the largest of its overseas tours.
There are 187 Mayan cultural relics including stone statues, pottery, carved jade and various utensils on display in the Nanyue King Tomb Museum, which is built to showcase the southern Chinese ancient culture, Lingnan Culture.
The show presents the outstanding achievements of the Mayan people over 3,000 years ago in the realms of architecture, sculpture, pottery-making, astronomy and mathematics.
The exhibition will move to Beijing in May.
