China Celebrates 800th Anniversary of Death of Philosopher
Various activities were held October 12 at the foot of Mt. Wuyi in east China's Fujian Province to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the death of Zhu Xi (1130-1200), a Chinese philosopher during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1276).
Zhu was regarded one of the main Confucian scholars of China's feudal period.
He combined Confucian theories with those of Taoism and Buddhism, and made Confucianism more theoretical and more systematic than it had been before. His influence was once spread to Japan and other East Asian countries.
