IT Gathering in West China

A group of IT presidents gathered Friday night in Urumqi, capital of China's westernmost Uygur Autonomous Region, to discuss ways to turn Xinjiang into a "digital city."

IT presidents included Hu Xiangqian, chief of delegates of the Asia Representative Office in Utah, James W Jarrett, vice president of Intel Ltd Co, and Chen Darong, vice president of Sybase Company.

Wang Huaiyu, vice chairman of the autonomous regional government, said that their suggestions will promote the local information industry which is crucial for the development of the region.

Symposiums on Internet Economy and e-business will be held. An IT alliance will also be established to support the move to turn Xinjiang into a digital city and an e-business center.

The presidents will also attend an IT and Products Expo on September 24.
