East China City Opens Solo Art Show in Beijing

A painting and sculpture show opened at the China National Gallery in this national capital to mark the beginning of a six-day art show by schools from Changzhou City, in eastern Jiangsu Province.

It is the first time that schools from a medium-sized city like Changzhou have ever held a solo art exhibition, according to official sources.

Local experts attributed it to the rapid economic development of the city over the past two decades and the priority given by local government to developing local education sector, including the art education, to improve the quality of students in an all-about way.

The show includes the painting exhibition and three concerts held by a children's band from Changzhou, according to Wang Heming, director of the city's education department. The band has visited many foreign countries and regions and is called a "Young Friendly Envoy", he said.

In Changzhou, a well-developed city in education, all local schools there have opened art courses.
