China's First Overhead Track Traffic Line Completed in Shanghai

China's First Overhead Track Traffic Line --Shanghai Pearl line--was completed on August 6, marking completion of China's first overhead electrified track traffic line. The line will be put into operation at the end of this year, ending the history of China without electrified overhead track traffic transportation. The project was constructed by the State Administration for Railway Electrification.

Built across Shanghai, the track line runs over 24.975 km from south to north, of which the overhead line extends 21.46 km. There are two main power substations, and 24 step-down or draw substations to be put under a fully automatic control system. Safe and smooth operation and running speed on the tracks will be guaranteed by an automatic signal-control system of the most advanced. As worthy of the name of Chinese builders, various possible protective measures and new techniques have been introduced to ensure that all concrete work, reinforcements and metal pipelines on the line are well protected and of good solidity.
