Shanghai Volkswagen Produces 100 Passat Daily

The daily production of Passat exceeded 100 to hit 108 today at Shanghai Volkswagen, China's leading car producer.

According to a company executive, Passat is the third generation of sedans produced by the Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation after the Santana and the Santana 2000.

He said that the new design was based on the prototype Passat sedan of the Germany-based Volkswagenwerk. Certain modifications were made to cater to specific needs of Chinese consumers.

The Shanghai Passat costs 245,000 yuan, while a luxury Passat costs 289,000 yuan.

Shanghai Volkswagen had the Passat Sedan on display at an international auto show in June in Beijing. The company has received over 10,000 orders for the sedan.
