Shanghai Volkswagen Launches New Sedan
The Shanghai Volkswagen Corp. announced Tuesday the launching of the company's Passat Sedan on the Chinese market at the Auto China 2000 Show.
The new sedan is the third generation of sedan produced by the Shanghai Volkswagen Corp. after the Santana and the Santana 2000.
The new design was based on the prototype Passat sedan of the Germany-based Volkswagenwerk, and certain modifications were made to cater to the specific needs of Chinese consumers.
An economic type of Shanghai Passat, with 52.82 percent of parts localization, is priced at 245,000 yuan, while a luxury type, with 45.38 percent of localization, coasts 289,000 yuan.
The new sedan has so far passed an evaluation conducted jointly by officials and experts from numerous State government departments.
