Flexible Residence Registration Policy Introduced to Help Develop West
Investors and professionals working in the western parts of China will have more choices in deciding their families' permanent residence status.
The Ministry of Public Security recently issued a notice, stipulating that all working in west China can leave their permanent residence registrations as they are, or can have them registered where they work. And if they return to where they came from, they can have their residence registration go with them. The new policy is aimed at providing a better environment for the country to carry out its west development strategy and encouraging a reasonable and orderly population immigration.
The notice also encourages the household registration reform in small cities and towns. It stipulates that farmers can apply for urban residence registration in cities at the county level and towns unless they have stable jobs and income there.
