Beware of Military Value of Human Genome Project
An article by gene experts published July 4 on the PLA Daily warned of the military value of the Human Genome Project. Experts said that people should be highly on guard against the use of gene technology by some developed countries to conduct genocide.
The article pointed out that when we are talking about the active significance of the Human Genome Project we should not disregard the fact that someone is attempting at using the outcome of the project to conduct activities destructive to mankind, such as applying it to war.
For instance, somebody has already raised and is actually carrying out the "gene weapon" plan. The essence of it is to study specific gene of different races and different tribes, and apply it by some tactics to a targeted group of people, thus causing extinction of a race.
This is no exaggeration. The 1996 government expert reports of America, Britain, Russia and Germany have all come to realize the possibility. Therefore in 1997, Britain began to set up a specialist group consisting of experts in multi-disciplined fields as biotechnology, medical and so on to work out a countermove. It constitutes a crucial problem to discover and protect the gene specificity and affectability of a race because this is an important question of life and death, which concerns whether a nation can survive and carry on from generation to generation.
